1: Bob - I had in mind that the nanites would eat plaster or whatever, but not like eating cloth/metal/humans.... so you could go through without risk (and yes, a limited lifespan is just good sense). As for the release of CQB 2183, it'll be shortly after my new website comes on-line with Adrian - give it a month or two.;) 2: Los spake sagely: Of course then there can be other specialist sci-fi cutting devices of the laser - plasma type. Potentially PA mounted. --> Or, perhaps something like a tube charge you just lay against the wall in the pattern you want (a big door) and which, when activated, cuts through the wall like a laser cutter or via a burst of plasma. Or perhaps some nasty explosive polarized in a direction we want and controlled by a small microcomputer to only detonate in the direction we want it to go (once you have contra-grav, lots of odd things are possible) - or maybe the cutting agent is a grav pulse... just rip you a door sized hole without a huge shockwave... so you could follow it in immediately.... Of course, for every easy breaching method, there is a nasty booby trap or a

Or is the GZG universe has monowire, puch/drill a small hole near the floor, push monowire with a ball-bearing end through the hole, drag the end on your side in a large arc. Nice, clean cut. Punch/pull the wall out of the way. If done right, nearly silent. But I think that a disposible plasma torch (aliens at the beginning) would be the most used option for non-explosive entry (where you don't want to announce your entry). Perhaps there should be a power level/impact value assigned to breaching equipment. The breaching unit rolls quality and impact die. The building rolls a Material Die (or some such). If the Material Die roll is higher, the breaching equipment failed. If any additional attempts are made at the same location, shift the Material Die down 1 (total, not per attempt). --- Brian Bell bkb@beol.net ICQ: 12848051 AIM: Rlyehable The Full Thrust Ship Registry: http://www.ftsr.org --- [quoted original message omitted]
