Has anyone tried having fighters screening other fighters?
In every air combat/space combat game I've come across you
usually get interceptors or simple fighters protecting bombers.
I know most people hate fighters (did I mention my 25 fighter group strong
fleet:) but what do people think about say having Interceptors screen a group
of torpedo bombers thus being able to take on missiles or enemy fighter groups
on their way to the target.
Obviously no screening benefit would be gained against PDS fire.
Anyone?

Yup, a pretty common occurance around here.
I think this was brought up when the FB first came out and Jon had no problems
with it, but I may be wrong.
I for one would love something like that. I know I've been playign Homeworld a
lot lately and one of the tactics I learned quick was to have a group of
interceptors or gun corvettes guarding my attack ships.
Exactly how would you go about it though without stretchign the rules too far?

It depends on your GM. Most PBeM games I've played (or run), the GM has
allowed you to allocate fighters to screen the other squadrons [not what is
written in FB, but allows more tactics]. It still doesn't help you if
outnumbered, but you can get that important squadron through the screen
&
directly into the PDS.

Agreed, I don't see any problem with it - a fighter escort to keep the
heat off the torp jocks as they make their run in makes a lot of sense (I'd
probably rule that the two (or more) groups have to be in base-to-base
contact (models permitting) and get moved together).
