OK, to cut down on the # of bogey marker types, a bit of the good ol' TNE:

Class1 = 0-10
Class2 = 11-100
Class3 = 101-1000
Class4 = 1001+
and so on. If you need a class 5, you are playing with ship designers who have
too much time on their hands. This provides a pretty clear distinction
between major sizes, but allows a good bit of fog-of war when you get
down to fiddly distinctions (BC vs. BB, FF vs. DD, etc) And you can still use
the FT bogey markers!

I think that this leaves just a bit too much in the mid range (11-100)
which covers from Corvettes to Battlecruisers.

See my previous post regarding the possibility of a log4 system.

Er, yeah. You're right. That is quite a gap there. It must have been a GDW
flashback, or something.
