Hey all:
Another craft question: As a cost saving measure, I'm going to be making my
own decals from now on. Does anyone have any suggestions on what inkjet
printer paper I should use? I've used SuperCal in the past, but the clear
decals are WAY too clear. Can anyone name a better choice?

Mark,
If you get details or recommendations, can you either post them here or let me
know, as I'm interested in getting the large numbers of unpainted ships I have
completed now PP:F has taken flight.
Thanks,
All,
For what it's worth, I'm working (on the side) for Decals Express
(www.wargamesexpress.com). While we don't have a lot to offer yet, our decals
are pretty good (if I don't say so myself) and we'll make custom orders. If
anyone has specific needs, let me know. I've also just heard from the owner
that Decals Express will be at the ECC. I plan to add some items to the line
before then, so if anyone needs custom work done, get in touch before then so
that I can try to have things done by the ECC.:)
Sorry for the shameless plug.
Oh, BTW, I have tried doing decals on an inkjet and it did not work very
well. I am now using an ALPS MD-5000 dry transfer printer and print on
sheets of decal paper. This method works much better and we get pretty clean
decal sheets out of it.
Thanks,
John

Same folks that Thomas Pope used to flog on the list, right? I bought several
sets, and while I can't comment on the usability, as I STILL haven't tried
applying any yet, I have to say that the service was incredible! You've a
tough act to follow.

The ALPS does inkjet, but has a small thermal unit per dot to fix the ink,
right? I thought that the thing that made the decals really work was being
able to put down a layer of white, then color, so that whatever was underneath
wouldn't 'shadow' through. But, it's been a long time since I'd bought the
original batches.
Shameless plugs that support the figs as well as ECC is a 'good thing'.
I just wish someone could work out a deal with Jon that would allow

Yes, Tom and I work closely together on this stuff.:)

Well, the white undercoating is clearly a big win. But the ALPS is also a dry
transfer printer that uses waterproof color (ink ins't quite right since it
prints using dry tapes). The waterproof ink means that the image won't run
when you soak the decals.

:) I'm fairly new to the list and don't want to piss people off
unintentionally. Now, if we start a political discussion...;)

I *know* that we've been in touch with Jon about this. Since Tom is the
point of contact, however, and is out of town for the holiday, I can't give
you an update. I'm hopeful that something will happen with this by the time of
the ECC.:)
