It may be of interest to anyone who doesn't keep track of the various computer
game sites, but there is a very space oriented game out there called Battle
Cruiser 3000ad. Now some of you probably heard about the fiasco with this game
where it was released by the publisher (not the programmer) before it was
actually finished. Recently the programmer released the final working version
of the game onto the net as freeware (52Mb in size though). I haven't really
played the game yet but it seems to be based on the old Elite style of game
except that you command a battleship with various different components
(Fighters, ground troops).
If anyones interested the address of the site is
http://www.bc3000ad.com/temp/temporary_download_page.htm
I'd advise you use getright or some similar program to download it.
Downloading it otherwise could be frustrating.
Anyway, hope its of interest.

Has anyone here downloaded (52meg!) and tried it? According to the
file on the page, this version is supposed to be a complete one. The one in
the stores in not complete, but you can get the patch on that page... Can
someone give us a review of the NEW version? (I know many peaple have tried
and disliked the original, I would like to hear about the new version before I
try to download it...)

I downloaded it, but only because I have a cable modem, now. Before that, I
wouldn't have bothered. The game starts up okay, but I haven't been able to
keep it running for more than about 5 minutes before it crashes. And I haven't
had much time to mess with it. I was hoping it would work okay.
Of course, that 5 minutes certainly looked pretty. :-)

I'll e-mail you a reply. I won't post it here as it is off topic.

You need to make sure you have all the subdirectories under the BC3K
directory. The installation program doesn't create them all. Make sure you
have the ANIM, DOC, PICS, POF, PTE, SAVE, SCRIPTS, and STE directories.
Hey, cool! I was missing a couple of the subdirectories! I'd seen that they
needed to be created in the installation notes, but didn't look closely
enough; when I saw that *some* of them were there, I neglected to make sure
that they were *all* there. Now I have to read the docs and figure out how to
fly this baby!
Thanks for the advice.
