Anyone here read the book Phule's Company by Robert Asprin?
In it one of the problems in the Space Legion company are two Sinthians, who
look like slugs with eyestalks. To solve the problem of battlefield mobility,
one of them starts riding a hoverboard (the other ends up in the sidecar of a
hoverbike). This creates problems with armament. Due to the eyestalks, he
can't really use sights so he needs automatic weapons. But the hoverboard
flies around due to recoil. So the police chief mentions that some of his guys
paintball and that might provide a solution. The Legion commander replies that
he doesn't need "Toys". The police chief mentions that some of those toys are
automatic with a high muzzle velocity. The Legion commander is still dubious,
until the cop mentions he might happen to know a source for acid balls and HE
rounds.
Anyone want to speculate on either FMAS or SGII stats for paintball guns with
HE rounds?
FP 3 (an Angel will kick out a whole lotta paintball!)
Impact D6? depends how efective your HE is

On the other hand, wouldn't it also have shorter range (shorter range bands or
a limit to 1 range band like SMGs)?
Impact might be bit higher--paintballs are what, about
.50 cal? It could carry a bit of explosive.
Hmmm, depends on the muzzle velocity, the Ireali army uses them cranked up
real high as a training aid. But maybe limited to 2 range bands.
Impact would depend on the power of the explosive, could be really high, or
not.
I guess you could model them with no real impact, or just allow them to wound,
and give them a morale effect, use them as a riot control tool.

LETHAL pneumatic military weapons (and civilian hunting arms) have been around
since, oh, the mid 1700s, at least.
modern pneumatic powered weapons with lesser rates of fire, might find use on
colonial worlds.
ditto for civilian weapons using paintball style pneumatic
systems.
i would suspect rounds would be slugs, flechettes, drugged darts, lead or
steel balls, etc. possibly acid filled or HE filled as extra nasty
antipersonnel rounds.
modern (SG II) body armor should be able to defeat all but acid or HEAP
rounds.
