Just received 156 Minbari, Narn, Centauri and Earthforce fighters from Mr.
Tuffley. (Thanks, Jon!). These are wonderful miniatures! If you have any
interest in B5 gaming, these are highly recommended. It's so cool to see
fighters that are in scale with the AOG ship miniatures.

Now to base them! Nick Caldwell clcaldwell@primary.net

No. Copyright and licensing laws and all that stuff.

Unless Jon's changed something (which could be, since Jon never ever runs his
minis specs past me;) I don't think those are B5 minis.
Those are no-B5 minis. (Jon, you have a not-Minbari fighter now???)

Correct. They are, shall we say, "inspired by" - ie: there are
similarities, but there are also differences. Not that it really matters much
in such a tiny size...:)
Yes, there is now GF-017, Star Sabre two-man fighters and GF-018,
Mundani
Tri-Lobe fighters (which is actually designed by Eureka Mins in Oz (Hi
Nic)
- we didn't even know it was coming till the last package arrived - and
is,
incidentally, also very good as a "not-Chig" for you SAAB fans).

Jon,

What is the part number and name of the "not-Chig"? Also, are
there any other additions to the GF line past the Mundani? I'd like to update
by web page list with this information.

Thanks,

GF-018 Mundani Tri-Lobe fighters. Chig and Minbari fighters are pretty
similar to one another.

BTW, Tom - RAFM has pictures of (most) of the Silent Death (Next
Millenium) ships on their homepage now. Unfortunately their names for the
models don't always correspond to what ICE calls them, but the product numbers
seem to be correct.

That's the latest GF release so far.

Well, at the risk of blowing my own horn.....

Earlier in the year I discussed with Nic of Eureka Minis fame the idea of
doing Fighter bases that could hold a dice as well as the fighter minis and
having them base-heavy so that they don't keep falling over all the time
(at that stage I was experimenting with many designs, most mage from plastic
or foam that kept toppling at the slightest touch). He told me if I did up a
prototype, he'd see what he could do. So I did one up out of a
standard hexagonal flight stand with a section cut-out to hold a
GW-sized
dice. Nic had a master done and sent me a few. They look really, really nice I
can tell you, especially when painted up. I've done some of my Star Tigers up
on them with 4 to a base and they look fantastic. With the D6 in the back to
show how many there are left in the group, I am looking forward to getting
more to use in my fleets. I don't know if Nic has them in production yet, but
I can tell you I will be getting many, many more of
them. Woo-hoo!

So if they prove popular, mayhap Jon and KR will have them available elsewhere
soon.

A base like that would also be useful for people who like to use something
like 'Ablative' Screens. When Adeptus Titanicus was out with it's assortment
of titans, the base of the titan had a slot in it that had a numbered wheel on
it, with the number showing through a hole in the base
-
used to show the number of shields remaining. Smaller bases like those used on
most ships could do just as well with a space for a die.

FWIW, I think it would be cool to have bases for 25mm figs that have a ready
mechanism for info such as confidence, leadership, etc. Perhaps a small hole
into which can be inserted a colored peg (not unlike the pegs used to note
damage in Battleship). The colors, numbers, whatever could relate to standard
quality or confidence levels etc. For that matter, multiple holes could be
useful for marking ammo reloads if you are doing
that - heavy wpns with 3 rnds of ammo, for example.

I imagine that a small drill and dowels would probably work, I just haven't
done it. - maybe someday...

I haven't seen anything on this from Nic yet, but we (GZG) have been working
on something very similar after several requests! More news
soon....
