I got my copy of the game! Here goes:
Having played the playtest rules, i expected a monolithic turn
interface- This is far from the case! They streamlined the HELL out
of it and made the whole attack/defense interface Much, Much easier.
This game is NOT Star Fleet Battles. It has that level of damage detail to the
ships without all that extraneous impulse
chart/drone/Positron flywheel/Scatter pack shuttle/Anti-drone defense
crap. I think game play is about twice as fast as the playtest version and the
Vorchans are no longer Space Winnebagos. They are more like Space Honda Sport
Coupes now.. I won't review the counters as i did them. Hardly sporting, you
know. If anyone has seen them and wants to critique, feel free!
Things on wish list: Lack of shuttle templates. They asked for
Shuttle counters- I painted them shuttle counters. They printed
shuttle counters. No shuttle rules. (hmph)
Knowing what i know about upcoming product (I am involved with the
upcoming Narn/ Centauri war supplement) I think that anyone
interested in B5 will find it a pretty good game. i do not yet have
any figures (i have a pre-release game copy) so i cannot comment on
their quality. <rubbing of hands together> Now to plan that assault on Ragesh
3....

One local games store near me has the current released miniatures out. There
are Minbari Cruisers and fighters, human fighters, pirate fighters, and the
fighters of several other races, Narn and Centauri notably. Although not more
then 4 days after they got on the shelves, all, I repeat, all of the human
Starfury fighters were gone! Still plenty of the others on the racks though.
So players might want to start right now thinking about playing something
other then Earthforce, as it seems a lot of people already want to be the
humans. BTW, the fighters are nowhere near the scale of FT fighters. In
fact, I purchased a blister of 3 of those Starfuries for use as fast attack
cruisers for my own FT fleet. The Minbari cruiser though is quite large, in
all dimensions.
For every man, there is but one true love in his life. His only task, is to
recognize it, and cherish it for all time.

Congrats; I'm still looking for it here. :-/

I saw the minis out last week at the main local gameshop here in town. They
looked okay; not bad. But still having a hard time with the price ($11.95 for
the Sharlin cruiser *hurts*:( My Minbari fleet will be rather small...).

Any chance of a more detailed outline of the figures? The local games stores
here have the attitude that if the game's not out noone wants to buy the figs
so they won't stock them until after game release (AAAAARGH! general tearing
of hair!)

The figure (if I understand you correctly) is fairly detailed, though
requires some assembly. :-/ AOG has a webpage with a 'hints on how
to assemble the Minbari warcruiser' diagram. ;-) The figure looks
good, and is 2-3 times larger than the MicroMachine version.
Please note: I have not yet assembled mine; I only picked it up last thursday
and have been out of town all weekend...
Also, I only looked at the fighters, did no purchase any (I figure the boxed
edition is coming with them already so why pick up more? I need
my spare $$ for GZG minis... :-) The detailing is pretty reasonable
from what I could see. The 'Furies need assembling, too, as do the Minbari
fighters. The Starfuries and Narn fighters are about half the size of their
MicroMachine counterparts.
The fighters are the only other figures I've seen out so far: Starfuries, Narn
heavy fighters, Centauri fighters, and Minbari fighters. Oh! And the Minbari
flyers.
They (AOG) have a slightly out-of-date (well..as of a week or so
ago) webpage detailing the minis they are releasing (and the release
dates...which is slightly behind).
You could prolly ask your local shop about ordering them from The Armory
in Baltimore, Maryland. Or order from them directly: 1-800-NOW-GAME (the
number translation is left as an exercise to the student).

Sigh, My local game store still doesn't have the miniatures much less the
game. Their distributor, Chessex, still hasn't got it listed in their
inventory. The proprietor of the store thinks that the release of the latest
Magic supplement may have slowed things down. Curses, foiled by a 12 year old

one kid once asked me during a Full Thrust demo.)

That's great news. Everyone I know has been blabbing on and on about how the
game is going to suck and that AoG is only going to make money on the
miniatures. I'll be starting Battlefleet Milwaukee (my B5 Wars Playgroup) as
soon as I get a copy and run through the rules.

That has got to be the STUPIDEST thing I have ever heard. As if gamers aren't
going to use these minis for any game OTHER than B5 Wars (have they ever heard
of something called FULL THRUST!!!!). There are two kinds of people who give
the free market a bad name: Those who make a profit via immoral means (e.g.
drug dealers, people who run sweat shops, companies that do business with
China, etc.), and people who are just too stupid to use it effectively. That
was my political rant for the day. Thank you and God bless.
Later,
SO how about a more detailed review of the game?! Turn sequence, flow,
combat, etc>?!?!
thanks, Paul

*sigh*
That's what I hate about being in school in Waterloo:
1) No really decent miniture gaming/wargaming shop.
2) No money to spend on things like B5Wars...
Yes, this is my monthly post to the list. I expect to become a regular
again when I graduate. If I graduate. (8-)
Apologies for the June 1997 archives on my WWW site. I was building the
archives, but I forgot to put an entry into them from my index page. Ooops.
Quick query: Is anybody using any of the 1996 archives? If not, I'm going
to zip them up to save some space, and eventually move them off-line.
Thanks,
J.

They had never heard of any of the GZG stuff.
