So are there any list members around Sidney? Is it as bad there as it sounds
on NPR?

I hope nobody is hurt.

Something like 100 different fires at the moment. A lot of them thanks to
arson.

140 odd homes destroyed, but no-one killed fortunately.

Massive great clouds of smoke (ironic) that will make beautiful sunsets

There's a lot more news story links there.

It's nice to know there are people out there in the rest of the world who
notice and care.

Sydney.

It's not good. Here in Canberra, the next suburb was given the "stand by to
evacuate" order over the TV, but they managed to get that blaze under control.
We spent Christmas day at my Mother's place at the other end of
the city, and managed to get there before the fires cut the road - and
came back just as they re-opened the road. The Australian Mint has some

Speaking as someone from a region where wildfires are a serious threat, our
prayers are with Oz and especially the men & women on the line. My father was
a VFD member. I've always been fascinated by the similarities between
firefighting and combat. If a house fire's a skirmish, a wildfire can range
from a skirmish to a full-fledged battle to a war. God bless you down
there.

Maybe we Yanks should load our B-52 fleet up with snow, and pay Sidney a
visit?
:-)
(I understand that New York City has so much snow, they don't know where to
move it to...)

I do hope your "no deaths" record continues to stand...

Thankfully New York City has still had no snow this winter. Though that may
change tonight. The ongoing clean-up sure doesn't need any help being
difficult. However I'm sure our "up-state" buddies in Buffalo would LOVE
to find such a practical use for their snow. All our prayers go to those men
and women on the fire lines down there. Just wish we could spare the people
from here to return the help you guys have always given us.

No worries, those Ericson helos ( old Sikorski CH-64 Skycranes ) have
already literally saved dozens of lives. IIRC we sent a hundred firefighters
to the US the last time you guys had some wildfires in Washington State. But
the Helos have paid for that in full, with
