Ah resemble that remahk suh!!

Seriously, the NCS was a spur of the moment idea, and it is beginning to
seriously change as I develop it. Presently, the initial colonization into the
solar system was indeed by a lot of nut types. In fact, it was the leadership
of this type (lead primarily by the government of the former Tennessee Valley
Confederation) that got the NCS involved in the First SW, with disastrous
results. Heck, even the earlier naval concepts, ironclads and torpedo rams and
such, are evidence of it. After that, and with the discovery of Dixie, much of
the immigration was simply folks looking for a new start, under their own
terms. The navy and other organizations are falling into line with the more
standardized forms of other nations. Personally, I just find it more difficult
to work up details on places on Earth, so I prefer to step out and make my own
places. (just ask my Traveller players) By the time of the Third SW, the NCS
is much like any other place, just with a deep sense of history from the Old
South.

Of course, on special occasions you'll still find the ladies in hoops and
crinoline and the men in grey uniforms 8^)

I have to agree with the nay sayers. I think the newsgroup imvolvement in the
history is a good thing but there seems to be a proliferation or more and more
unlikely 'new' governments, each more unlikely than the last. I have a
softspot for the
CSA and Byzantium but never, ever for Full Thrust - The CSA is at best
going to be one old ship full of nutters who have seen Gone With the Wind once
too often. And as for the more bizzare ideas...

Of course once you buy it it is your game and never would I suggest NOT
posting, I still like to see the material and I have learned from it, but it
sometimes seems a little crazy (sorry but the recent Achmaenid and American
suggestions got to me).

As to Japan, I would love to see it fleshed out, but I am too lazy and
unimaginative to do it myself. For ship names somewhere on the internet is a
list of them and what they mean (eg. BBs named after proviences I think). I
used to have a copy but a good start would be the wondeful Imperial Japanese
Navy Page at
http://www.skypoint.com/members/jbp/kaigun.htm
I still think the pagoda look would work for the ships, I would try building
one myself but I am up to my neck in halberders (for Warhammer, not Neu
Helvetica).

Thats ok with me...It is good to hear your thoughts on it. That is
what this list is for. Sharing ideas, and critisiums.

Personally, I love to see everyone's efforts at everything....It does give me
food for thought.

Posting to the list serves a couple of purposes: a) If it's an idea you're
fascinated by and are going to work up for your
own use--such as the NRE or the Confederates--then then rest of us can
give you feedback and ideas. I've contributed to the NRE even though I
wouldn't use it in my universe; b) Many people get inspirations in the midst
of telling their story to someone else. Posting to the list is more
interactive (and requires less discipline) than writing fiction; c) No matter
how whacko your concept is, it may spark ideas for the rest of
us. Of course, the idea may be "he's fatally caffeine-deficient"!
