If you can identify a case where AO/FB Ship Designer generates
incorrect results, let me know--I'll fix it.
BTW: If I added SRD generation to AO, would people use it? Without having done
it yet, I think it would work this way: o Checkbox switches Design Summary
between text and SRD. o Uses custom downloadable font for SRD symbols (but
with version 4+ browsers would not require font
installation). o By downloading and installing font, you could copy
and save SRD from page, and view/print it off-line.
I'm also thinking about what features to provide for a Dirtside II Motor Pool
module, for designing DSII vehicles.

ah, well, the thing is, i don't have a copy of the FB, so i can't check if
unexpected behaviour is a bug in AO or my understanding of the design rules.
the problem i had was in duplicating Noam's design: AO thought it was illegal.
still, chances are it was error on my part.

SRD = SSD, i assume.

how about a link or button, so that you use AO as-is, then click on a
link for the SSD at the end. the current display is, i'd say, better for
designing, and far more lightweight (if updating the SSD is slow, people
won't use it in the design phase).

but not by everyone else. would this work for mac users (probably)? unix users
(unlikely)?

i'd favour constructing a GIF and sending that, but this would take cgi
hackery, which is probably tricky and very isp-dependent.

that would be cool too; someone should collect together the links for AO, your
proposed MP app and the SG2 power armour designer (which i've never seen, but
have heard tell of).

One suggested addition to Armageddon Outfitter; how about the ability to enter
the number of weapons of a specific type? With weapons like beams, you often
have large multiples with the same fire arcs, so it would be a lot easier to
add just once (and allows for easier tweaking of the stats.)

that would be nice. it would also add consistency: at the moment, you can
specify the multiplicity of FireCons and PDSs (which don't need details), but
not beams (which do). my designs regularly have six identical
class-2
batteries, so having to enter all six can be a pain.
what most needs doing, though, is some debugging of event propagation; if
i alter the hull type, the right-hand pane changes, but the left-hand
one does not, so that there is an incorrect figure for hull mass and points.
there are a few other things like this, i seem to recall, to do with changing
system settings (which i can't reproduce just at the moment).
also, a version number on the page would be handy: i have downloaded the
HTML/JS (oops - i hope you don't mind) so that i can use it when not
dialled up.
ah - i also worked out a better way of doing the graphical version.
rather than CGIing together a single gif, make an html layout (with a table
set?)
which contains icon gifs, like the hull/armour display at the moment.

Oops. Yup--SSD. Ship status display.

Good idea. I like.

I want to make it an "embedded" font, so anyone with a browser
that recognizes and uses such fonts (NN 4+ and IE 4+ browsers
on Mac and Windows, I think) could see it as SSD instead of meaningless ASCII
characters.
> o By downloading and installing font, you could copy
I don't have a dynamic site, though; I can't generate
images on-the-fly. But if it's a font (Mac & Windows),
people could copy the SSD text, paste it into a word processor, and set the
font; then they could print it out. This should work whether they are using a
browser that supports "embedded" fonts, or not.

Actually, what you call Armageddon Outfitter is just the first module, the
Fleet Book Ship Designer. The Motor Pool would be the second module of
Armageddon Outfitter. After
all, no self-respecting arms dealership would limit itself
to one kind of vehicle!

Some systems have that already. I plan to add a Qty. field to all systems
where it makes sense (probably all of them) when I update it.
Note: I have no idea when I'll get the chance to update it, though. I'm just
gathering ideas, now.
