Here is another TV show from 93 that has a real SGII/Traveller feel to
it, ran only six episodes and is out on tape now.
Set in the 22nd century, this science fiction adventure follows the exploits
of a group of futuristic police stationed at a remote outpost in deep space.
The outpost was called Fort Hope and was located on Planet Avalon.
1. Space Rangers - original CBS airdate: January 27, 1993
When a ship carrying Boon's old friend crashes on a desolate planet that's
also a sacred Graaka burial site, the Rangers attempt a rescue mission that
could cost them their lives.
2. Banshies - original CBS airdate: January 13, 1993
Col. Weiss asks the Rangers to trap a deadly alien - a request that
Boon refuses until he learns a young boy is trapped on an abandoned spaceship
with some of the creatures. Zed: James Cooper, Schmitty: Gary Byron.
3. The Replacements - original CBS airdate: January 6, 1993
The Rangers are assigned a new android while they try to uncover the reasons
behind a mining ship's hijacking.
4. The Trial - not aired by CBS
Zylyn is accused of murder and the rest of the Rangers defend him in court.
5. Death Before Dishonor - original CBS airdate: January 20, 1993
After Boon twice offends an alien dignitary, the crew is sentenced to death
and war is declared on Fort Hope. The crew's only hope: Boon must challenge
the alien to a duel.
6. To Be... Or Not To Be - not aired by CBS
The Rangers race to a prison planet to rescue a comedian.

History is written by the victors then rewritten by the apologists and
disregarded by both.
Pardon a vacc-head's question, but I seem to recall the situations
generally had very small numbers going in; would SGII's squad orientation work
that well?
Also, they tended to occur in enclosed spaces, such as the halls of Fort Hope
or a spaceship interior. This is not to say there weren't soirees into the
jungles, but a sweep through cargo hold is my first, abiding memory of the
rangers at work.
Lastly, 93?

Oh, no problem, especially at the FMA level. Definitely fun and
wisecracking all the way, though. ;->=

My recollection was that they only showed four episodes originally. Quirky and
rough in spots, painfully cliche' in others, it had many possibilities that
were sadly unrealized. True of too many shows that never had a chance to get
started.
Interestingly, I thought it was close to the best role I've seen for
Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa.
Actually, the only complaint this ole vacc-head has was the little I
remember in the way of space battles. Neat looking ship, but I don't remember
it doing much beyond ferrying the 'posse' to the 'scene of the
crime...'
Damn, I'll have to borrow the tapes from a friend again... ;->=

Pushing toward FMA perhaps....)

Yeah it was more police like than space marine like. But with a little
tinkering......could be doable.
Lastly, 93?
That's when it was on TV, I missed the show when it aired I picked up the VHS
tapes while TDY in Germany.

Hate to drift off topic, but there is one show that I watch on Thursday
nights, and that's *shudder* a "reality show": The Great Race. It's the only
reality show worth watching...
For my part, since I got peeved at Time-Warner and went cable-less, I've
finished watching _The World at War_ and _Band of Brothers_ on DVD. Next
up,
in no particular order, is _From The Earth To The Moon_ (I love that
series),
_Canada: A People's History_ and a whole raft of samurai movies...

I see all sort of possibilities on the FMA side and using the Rangers
as a plug in element/comic relief in a SGII game.

Much the same story with Firefly, you have to let these things find their
audience. I think the only reason Stargate is around still is it started out
on pay cable and then went to general TV. Oh well the "suits"
rule......(

Yeah loved the whole Draka concept. Although I liked him as the evil general
on "Bridge Of Dragons" too.

There was one fire fight with the "Banshees" that was more like B-17
gunners defending against fighters than anything remotely FT like.
Damn, I'll have to borrow the tapes from a friend again... ;->=
Yeah I blew the dust of the cases last night and watched one and, as Thursday
night TV sucks.......putting in another.....)
Could always cook something of a combined game up for "Battle in Outer Space"
(Remeber that old Japanese movie?:o)
Guess what was on cable last night:o)

Ouch........but then I think it's in my video collection....)

Of course, this does rely on having a copy of FMA... to us poor saps its
just a small SGII game!

A) I'm a vacchead, B) I missed the opportunity for a copy of FMA, so all my
comments are speculation. ;->=

Rub it in; working eight hours today, four tommorrow. Still, with everyone
else off, it's play, play, play...

Well, I've just graduated from University and have got my grubby (and now
paint stained) fingers on my stock of unpainted Salute-buys for the
first time since the day itself....

Aww, but that's no fun.
