Subject: Another Question

Thanks for your help on the previous question. I now have another one.

The PBEM game we're playing is blind. I've had to come up with new rules for
EW spotting due to the absence of hidden markers. But here's something I
hadn't considered... How long should a unit spotted by EW remain unhidden?

In the main SG2 rules, once a hidden unit is placed on the board it stays
there. So, if a unit is spotted by EW, it remains spotted for the rest of the
game. In our blind game, we hide a unit if it goes out of LOS. The thing is,
an EW spotting attempt can find a unit that is completely hidden.

Does it make sense, in a blind game, to allow the unit to remain unhidden for
the rest of the game, the rest of the turn, until the hidden unit's
activation, until the EW unit's next activation, or for that one action only
(like a small "blip" that shows up early then disappears)? What are your
thoughts on it?

Oops. Meant to send that to TomB offlist.

Still, I'll leave the question open to the list. How long _should_ a SG2
EW spotting attempt last, in a game that's played blind such that a discovered
unit disappears when you drop out of LOS? Should a unit spotted by EW remain
visible for the rest of the game, for a single turn, until the EW unit is next
activated, until the spotted unit is next activated, or just for that single
action (i.e. "Such and such a unit is found here." *points at a location*)

Hmmm.

Once an EW unit spots a hidden unit (henceforth the "target unit"), the target
unit is revealed until the EW unit's next activation. At that point, the EW
unit must allocate one EW chit to "maintain contact" with the target unit.

The target unit will _immediately_ revert to hidden
status under any of the following conditions: 1. Another EW unit successfully
opposes the EW unit which is "maintaining contact" to the target unit (See
Chap 19, section iv.) 2. The EW unit "maintaining contact" voluntarily drops
contact by not allocating an EW chit to this EW task. 3. The EW unit
"maintaining contact" is rendered incapable of performing EW functions
(killled, captured, etc.)

This has not been playtested in the least, and is
pretty much a knee-jerk suggestion.

Good luck!
