Amongst my assorted piles of junk are one of those Heller
Clic-Clac
1/43 VAB AA vehicles, which is pretty nice. I also have a couple of
their
1/72 VAB (it's something like Vehicule l'Avant Blindee) 4x4s, which were
snap together 6 part polystyrene kits, and 2 1/72 scale S-tanks
(Stridsvagn 103B, = Combat vehicle, 10cm gun, 3rd type) in polythene, rather
like a slightly more complex version of the old Airfix Assault series
vehicles,
from a Japanese firm, either Imai or Eidai I think. S-tanks are REALLY
old, (1960s) but still manage to be futuristic, which is pretty cool.
By the way, as a sad armour nut, the South African 155mm SP is the G6. Also,
the US Marine APC was the LVTP7, now called the AAV7. It's mighty predecessor,
the LVTP5, always looked pretty SF to me!
On the topic of toys, I saw a garish remote control tank in Toys R
Us a few weeks ago, at about 1/24 scale so no earthly use, but
intrigueingly enough it was an XM1 prototype (pretty different from an M1), so
all sorts of stuff can turn up as toys. Kids' toy "battle sets" often contain
1/76ish
polythene M48s, Centurions and Chieftains, which might come in handy.
For post WW2 armour, JB Models in the UK do several M113 variants, and the
British Saladin 6x6 armoured car and its Saracen 6x6 APC relative, as nice
polystyrene kits for about 4UKP each.
cheers, Rob
While we're on the topic of convertible vehicles for SG2, I saw what looked
like an excellent model for conversion. It was a German WW2 railroad car. Not
just any car, though, it was armoured with what looked like a Pzkw IV turret.
Although perhaps a little narrow, this thing just SCREAMS to be made into a
grav tank. The main body looks like they took a railroad car, widened it, and
converted it into a sloped, armoured box, then popped the turret on top.
I'm not sure of the manufacturer but I think it was one of the bigger Japanese
model companies. I can track down more information if anyone
is interested. It was in 1/32 (or, more likely, 1/35) scale and would
look good with over sized 25mm figures.

Interesting! Just yesterday I was looking through a book on the German forces
during WWII and they had a picture of these things. Apparently it was the only
way for Germany to protect its assets from partisan attacks while on their way
to the Eastern Front. The picture in the book showed a train with ten or
eleven of these things with varying armaments. Good thing the beast couldn't
leave the tracks!

I've seen one of these kits, too. I think the company that makes it is
Dragon. There are actually a couple of kits--one with a tank turret on
it, one with a citadel that has machine guns all around (an infantry car?),
and a command car that just has some radio aerials on it. I need
to track one of them down, though--the store that I saw it in doesn't
have it any more. :-( Oh, and yes, it was 1/35.
I've seen it, and am pretty certain it's a Dragon.
Also, there were at least two, and I think three different cars available. The
turreted, a straight troop transport, and I think a command car. A friend
considered making an Evil Empire Squat land train from them, til I showed him
I had some cheap Soviet tanks that some simple plastic card and simple bits
would make ALMOST as good, and made MUCH more sense off RR tracks.
Hmm... I could have left out the 'Evil Empire' part, since Squats no longer
exist, and are just a figment of our imaginations...

Yes! It was Dragon, now that I think about it.

A slammer's infantry car? Could be...
