Hello, Here is the reply from Jerry regarding the dscription of Alderson Trams
lines:

It's a line not a point, but the length of the line depends on a bunch of
stuff. The farther you go down that line the more energy used, and that soon
becomes nearly infinite in some cases. The Mote to the Supergiant link is a
special case indeed, and the band is pretty narrow.
