Quick question:

Does any game/hobby shop in Albany NY, stock FT?

Jon Davis would know because he lives near by in Schenectady NY, but I bet
he is already gone to the GZG-ECC (which should just be starting about
now).

Mark asked this (to bring you all up to speed) since in some Battlefleet
Gothic discussion on rec.games.miniatures.warhammer, someone said they would
play BG because that is what the stores carried in Albany where he was from.
They don't stock Silent Death or FT so no one plays them, though he does own
FT and MT.

Originally someone had suggested that Silent Death would be a good alternative
to BFG. Seeing that this was a fighter game more than a Capital ship game, I
suggested FT. This is respone I got back:

Reality check:

Here in Albany, NY, NO one stocks Full Thrust. NO one stocks Silent Death.
EVERYONE will stock Battle Fleet Gothic. The majority of players do NOT read
the rec.games.miniatures.* newsgroups, nor go out of their way to find the
lesser known games.

I own Silent Death (original 1st ed - never bought into the 2nd ed
because, as far as I'm concerned, the 2nd ed. killed my first ed. ship models,
of which I have about 50 painted). I own Full Thrust and More Thrust. Unless
it's a *really bad* game, I will most likely be playing BFG while the other
games gather dust.

I don't know exactly what is point was. However, he seems to indicate that
since no one in his neighborhood plays FT, my suggested to use it as a BFG
atlernative is invalid.

Huh???

Well, they were playing it heavily in Orlando, Florida, USA where I moved FROM
a year ago. They play it heavily in San Jose, California, USA where I moved TO
a year ago. The width of North America plays, as far as I can tell..

It's known in the St.Louis area, at least to a couple of game shops, but isn't
widely played. The largest chain of shops in the area, however, doesn't stock
Full Thrust (or Stargrunt, or Dirtside). This shop, as the previous poster
mentioned, will no doubt stock an entire wall full of BFG junk when it comes
out.

The store that used to carry a wide range of FT and SG figures closed in June
1998. There is a definite dearth of good games stores in this area currently.

Why do you ask?

Right. Huh??

We do not have a large contingent of FT players in the area, but there is a
group that plays at the Schenectady Wargaming club, my group plays, and a few
others in the area.

There were four people from the Albany area at GZG-ECC II, including
myself. This person is simply misinformed.

My limited experience around the country is that it's known, has had brief
experiences of popularity, and brief resurrections from time to time.

GW has a constant flow of new products and semi-pro support; I think FT,
all things considered, does rather well.

I can name probably 5 people in Alaska that have even heard of Full Thrust. 3
are my friends, 2 are employees at the game store in town that say "Full
Thrust? What's that...oh, that's right, you've asked me about that
before...dunno."

Sigh...
