I'm moving from Pop-Up-Ad-Cities to Angelfire.
www.angelfire.com/va/laserlight/index.html and thereabouts. Note: Most
links will give you a 404 right now, I have only gotten up pages for Full
Thrust, Alarishi Empire, and Alarishi Navy (plus my business page). New
format, easier to read and navigate, and more compatible with the GZGPedia.
Not a lot of new content, although the Alarishi Navy page has a couple of
ships, including a Thrust 13, Superior Sensor recon corvette, the Night Music
class with a stealth upgrade, named Night Vision. Coming Soon(er or Later)!
The renowned Alarishi Army! The terrifying Alarishi Government (so to speak)!
The nefarious Islamic Federation Navy! The Knights Templar (or for those of
you who are finicky about such things: the Sovereign Military Order of the
Poor Fellow Soldiers of Christ and the Temple of Solomon)! And more!

Stealth?? Do I have a convert? Can't get to your page yet. At Thrust 13, does
it have anything at all besides engines and sensors?

Hi All, This message brings up an important point that I was thinking about
last night.

Question: Do all/most of the people doing nations on the GZGpedia use
house rules (for weapons/systems) in the design of the fleets
being considered as standard for the nation/power?

Bye for now,

Try using Internet Explorer instead of Netscape. For some reason (which I'm
sure the html literate out there can explain) Netscape
has trouble opening/displaying some pages
which Internet Explorer doesn't even blink at
- I think its another of those exceedingly
annoying Microsoft quirks. I've ended up having to have a version of both
Netscape and Internet Explorer on my machine just to be able to view all the
sites I have to go to regularly (grumble, groan, rant, rave).

Anyways, it does show up in Internet Explorer even though it doesn't with
Netscape (maybe a glitch to be fixed Laserlight?).

Cheers

Beth

P.S. Take care John.

A cursory look reveals a few reasons why this page makes netscape barf....
<TABLE> is opened but never closed with a
</TABLE> which I have previously noticed confusing netscape.

Other niggling ommisions/errors/oversights are... <TR> opened and
not closed, also <FONT>, no # infront of the hex value for BGCOLOR, a bare
ampersand instead of &amp; bare doublequote marks instead of &quot; and the
mailto:laserlight@cwix.com ought to be inside doublequotes.

Fixing at least the TABLE and possibly the TR problems will probably sort it
out, the others are less important.

I will have 2 non-standard items: Wave Gun cruisers (rationalized as
firing
a spray of anti-matter pellets), and the Night Vision class mentioned
above.
I am designing my fleet to make both of these items optional add-ons, ie
the main body of the fleet with be straight Fleet Book vanilla.

I would've if I knew what was wrong! Without time to upgrade my education in
that sector I have to rely on kind folks such as yourself to point those
things out for me..;)

Thanks.

Instead of changing browsers, find the problem in the HTML and pass it on to
Laserlight so he can fix it! (I have done that below)

To fix the page, laserlight needs to close the table. Add a </table>
tag at the
end of the HTML, before the </body> tag, and that should take care of
it. Netscape follows the standard that says that tables need a closing tag,
while Internet Explorer does not. This may make internet explorer seem more
robust, but what it actually does is contributes to the proliferation of poor
html, because so many people don't ever know it is wrong.

I wonder if microsoft authoring tools leave out table closing tags on purpose,
to make it seem Netscape is broken...It really wouldn't surprise me...Anyway,
enough of that...

Hope this helps!

You looked too soon. I think I fixed all the ones that exist (Home, Full
Thrust, Alarishi Empire, AE Fleet, AE Army). Islamic forces and Templars due
up any time now (geologic time, that is).

Only one I've found that's worth anything. Netscape's Composer and Microserf's
Frontpage are both useless, as far as I'm concerned...but Arachnophilia is
pretty cool. You DO have to know some HTML already, but there're guides and
tutorials included to keep you from screwing up too
badly. Wonderful program - practically none of my site would exist
without it...(I handcode still, using Arachnophilia as a 'spellchecker' and
template. Makes things go much faster than straight handcoding - the
program can do the tedious bits for me, while still leaving me with lots of
control of layout, etc)

Nope. Made with someone badly decaffeinated. I write HTML by hand, so to
speak. if I'd been awake, I'd've caught the </TABLE>'s and put them in.
Not MS's fault, except that when I previewed the page (IE4) everything looked
okay.

For those on a Mac, I have found PageSpinner to be a wonderful HTML Editor.

http://www.algonet.se/~optima/pagespinner.html

Now that I am using a PC at work I have yet to find a decent editor (so I'm
currently using notepad, or using pagespinner on my mac and retrieving it via
ftp). I'll look into Arachnoid, though. And just in case anyone is tempted to
point me in either of 2 other directions, let me be frank in saying that both
Frontpage and Hotdog totally suck. Won't go that route again. Downloading
Hotdog was the biggest waste of bandwidth I have ever participated in.

Thanks for the tip!

Dreamweaver 2 is *good*, doesn't mess with hand formatted code and will
reformat cruddy code. I use it for all my sites.
Has a very good HTML check and auto-fix mode too. I've used it
to cleanup word97 HTML into something looking sane.
