Subject: Air dropped Units
> [quoted text omitted] > DS does have rules for air dropped deployment. For vehicles this is Lately I've seen several people refer to size-2 vehicles being air-droppable in DSII... p.43 says that "Only infantry and Very Light (class 1) vehicles and equipment may be paradropped,..." which clearly disallows airdropping size-2s, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's some other reference elsewhere which does allow dropping size-2s as well. Is there such a reference elsewhere, and if so where? <g> <<< IMHO, this rule is one that should be ignored, if not dropped alltogether. 1. Some Grav vehicals in scifi (Traveller especially, but also Renegade Legion) are able to insert orbitally under their own power. 2. The Patlabor Anime/Manga series had the Helldiver AV97 labor, which is about size 3-4, being deployed from huge aircraft (It solved the breaking problem by being lightweight, having built in aerobrakes and aslo had a disposable rocket engine for breaking as well. In one episode, a Helldiver lost its chute, and was able to survive landing by aerobraking alone, although the machine was an operational kill with its legs stuffed). 3. It looks cool :-) Maybe a cost increase, not unlike amphibious vehicals, for orbital insertion. This could be 2 levels (fast insertion and slow insetion. Fast means it can land and activate imedietly for 1/2 distance, and the slow means that landing takes all the activation of the unit).
