There is still a lot of work going on with the Unified Field Theory. There may
be a force not completely explained yet that brings them together. Dan
Alderson (Formerly of NASA's JPL, May he RIP) designed the Alderson Drive
based on this idea. We may find a FTL (in this case instantaneous) drive
system yet... Besides there is plenty to do here in our own back yard. What we
really need is lots of Energy. Anyone know how the Tocamak is doing these
days? The other issue is expense. It takes the same amount of Energy to fly a
10 pound package from LAX to Sidney Australia as it does to place that same
package in orbit. But the costs are radically different. It is good that all
of us nerds are the only ones that can survive in this changing world. Now

As I understand it, the Tokomak has been shut down (after it's successful
test) by the US Congress' lack of funding. Go figure. They actually ran it at
60% with a stable hydrogen plasma torus and everything!

The first sustained fusion reaction to date (as far as I know) was
accomplished by the Brits a few years back. It lasted some odd milliseconds
(or was it microseconds). If the Tokomak was actually a "true" fusion reactor,
it would take more than a pack of professional
politicians to de-fund it.
