I'm going to get skinned for this I know (:)) but I was shown some samples of
the Evil Empire(tm)'s new 40K race over the weekend and I think you peeps on
here should check them out. They a race called the
Tau. They're /very/ anime - remind me a lot of Appleseed frankly - with
no taste of that dire GW technogothicry at all. They're basically power armour
figures carrying long weapons that look very railgunny, if that's a word.
They're also some of the best sculpted figures they've done in years IMO. The
APC they're coming out with for them is stunning, although I suspect it won't
be cheap.

I think they'd go very well in an anime themed game, or possibly along with
GZG United Nations troops. They're not as nice (IMO) as the best of GZG's
stargrunt figs but variety as they say is the spice of life.

Have a look at

_teaser2.htm

see what you all think - but ignore the Kroot because they're frankly
rather sad.

There was some discussion on the list earlier about the Tau in April 2001
(See Memory Bank http://www.warpfish.com/jhan/ft/Archive/).

Here were some of the pages with pictures from that discussion:

Well, “Evil Empire” or not, I have always liked a good portion of Citadel’s
minis (in pre-GW days they had a FANTASTICLY comprehensive line of
historicals). They have some damn fine artists on staff IMO.

Sure, GW's pricing policy blows. Their rules and rule-lawyering drives
me
insane. And while their back-story for 40k never impressed me either, I

tend to ignore all back-stories in favor of my own (if I bother with
such a thing). Hell, the entire corporate attitude stinks IMHO (ask me someday
about the GenCon where the ONLY Warhammer Fantasy event was run my me and they
would not give me the time of day).

But, for me, I have always liked the idea of "Orcs in space" (and dwarves
too). While 'my orcs' bear little resemblance to 40k orcs and nothing makes
me cringe like the phrase "Waaagh" :-(

I picture my orcs as less intelligent, green skinned Klingons without a

shred of honor.

Anyway, I like the new minis (the Kroot too). And with them being plastic
maybe someday I will grab a box. Heck, I just grabbed a handful of "Gorka
Morka" orcs for 99 cents a pack the other week. So much for
over-priced,
huh? ;-)

Anyway, that’s my 2 cents.

I agree with that. Scratch the magic and substitute tech for some the racial
styles, you have a great SF game. Nektons, Ralnai, Dreenoi... Dwrves, Gnomes,
Elves... Rauwoof, Blarad, Mekpurr... what's a godd SF campaign without these
and some 'Humans" as Aliens?

Rule 1 - Win!
There is no rule 2.

Okay, that I can afford. <grin>

Okay, while I hate the prices, and the regular 'cartoon' figures aspect (I'd
use marvel superhero figures if I wanted that look) I guess I can
do that. Despite my dislike of what I have seen in 25/28mm I can't
resist another set of figures for DS2. I'll look at them.

G'day Jon,

I'd don't know each to his own mate... I think they've got potential in a
gruesome kinda way;)
