Anyone here play Dirtside II? Some kid just gave me a box full of MEchWarrior
Dark Ages stuff, mostly tanks, vehicles and infantry, and I am wondering if I
could use it with Dirtside? Pry the pieces off those crappie plastic bases and
it seems they might work well although the scale is a tad different. Anyway,
what do you Dirtside players think? What scale should I use? I was thinking of
the 1" = 50 meters scale...

Silly question:) Ground scale for Dirtside as written is 1"=100m. Of course
you could also use them for SG with out changing the scale (troops are now
scale to the rules).

Right, but I was reading in the front of the rule book last night that the
1"=1000m scale is for 1/300-1/285th and that other scales might need to
be modified slightly. The mechwarrior stuff is larger then that scale.

Thanks!

Heh.... I'm the wrong guy to ask, since I think most 6mm sci fi is too big as
it is. LOL

I suppose you could use the MW:DA stuff for either SG or DS, since it's scale
falls between the standards for the two games.

The Mechwarrior stuff is N-gauge or 1/160th or so. Good luck getting the

things off the bases. I know for Mage Knight, people have talked about putting
the figures in the freezer to make the glue brittle, but I've never had any
luck with that at all...

What kind of glue do they use?

Try a hot knife or hot wire. Apply brute force as needed.:)

John, thanks for the scale info! As for getting them off the bases, the
vehicles themselves pretty much pry off with your fingers. You have to be a
little gently but I popped about 12 off last night with no real issues. The
infantry on the other hand....

I'm getting bunch for playing various game systems; I figure I can slice the
infantry groups into one, two, and three figure 'platoons' for Ogre
Miniatures.

Correct me, but the vehicles and infantry don't quite jib in scale, right? Not
that that bothers me. The paint job's pretty crappy, but better than anything
I've tried yet, so fine by me. However, I think the dudes look about 10mm, so,
if the rules say 1:1000, then 1:500 or 1:600, inch to meters, would be more in
line, wouldn't it?

You're right, though. They do seem to pop off the bases easily enough.

Looks like cyanoacrylic; maybe acetone to solve?

So far, the couple guys I have popped off easily, but you're all starting to
scare me.

I have some stuff specifically designed to dissolve cyanoacrylic, not sure if
it's acetone or what, I'll look at it tonight. It definitely heats up when
applied ( spilled some on myself), so I don't recommend it for use on skin.

What took you so long? hehe
