Subject: 6mm GEVs

I was just wondering, does anyone know any good 6mm GEVs in a very, very
particular style? Here is my dilemma. I have decided to create an FSE force
for Dirtside. I have also decided to limit my vehicles to a very
particular style of GEV - hover skirted, with angular, wedge shaped
front sections. In particular, the DSM-112 / SF25-28 Wombat and the
DSM-120 / SF25-26A Goliath are the only two miniatures in the entire GZG
range I am willing to use. This is because I am a perfectionist. It is very
important to me that all my vehicles maintain a strong "theme", a design ethic
carried through the entire force. In any case, to my mind the other "rounded"
GEVs belong to the NSL. The angular grav types are
the ESU. The six-wheelers are the NAC. The question is, do any of you
veteran wargamers with a detailed knowledge of miniatures know where other
minis in this style can be found? Any hover skirted 6mm GEV with a
\_/ wedge shaped front will do (I don't ask much, do I? :-).

Hmmm. I can't tell from the picture, but the Ogre/GEV Paneuropean GEV
looks somewhat tapered at the front (see
http://www.sjgames.com/miniatures/ogre/deluxegev/img/photo4.jpg). But I
would suggest looking at the box (or preferably the actual miniature) first.

I am not sure what other miniatures have that "Shoe-tip" shape.
Dirtside Miniatures:
DSM112 Wombat http://www.geohex.com/dsm112.htm
DSM110 Rommel http://www.geohex.com/dsm110.htm also tapers at the front,
but also is tapered at the rear (does not need to carry infantry).
DSM113 Light Hover Jeep http://www.geohex.com/dsm113.htm looks like it
may be a good fit.

The GEV in the picture is the Pan-European "light" GEV. I think
the regular size GEV might be closer to what Matthew is looking for.

Here is a few shots by Johnny Perchalski. Look at the first few
vehicles in these pictures, they are the standard Pan-Ero GEVs:

In this picture the three gray vehicles are the Pan-Euo GEV-PCs

Of course I could be way off in what I understood Matthew is looking
for. :-)

Yes, I can see what you're on about. I have had a good look around the Ogre
website now and I have to say what little of the Paneuropean GEVs I have seen
I like a lot. They are very much to my taste. I will have to
investigate further - does anyone know of any sites with clear photos of
the GEVs? And exactly how many are there, three I think...?

The reason I have not included the DSM110 is it's name. "Rommel" just screams
NSL, don't you think?? Because I really like the mini I was considering the
option of saying that the FSE had them too under a different name. However, I
thought that since it's 82 years since the FSE and NSL went their seperate
ways (assuming we're still 3rd solar war period), doing this was pushing it a
bit!! Otherwise yes, the Rommel would have fitted the design ethic well.

Thanks very much for the ideas!! Anyone else have any others??

Matthew, you may want to wait a few months then. The GEV and Light GEV will be
available soon from Steve Jackson Games. I am unsure
when the GEV-PC will be out.

At this point I only know of three GEVs for the Pan-Ero force.
The GEV, Light GEV, and the GEV-PC.

By the way, I also remembered another figure you might like. Stan Johansen
Miniatures has some micro scale figures. He has some GEVs and some GEV trucks.
He also allows you to buy one at a time so maybe you could spend a few dollars
to see if you like them and not get stuck with a lot of them. Just and Idea.

The design of the tank is, ah, "based" off the LkPz-IX (Luki-9, Luki
short for Luftkissen, hovercraft) tank from GDW's 2300AD game, so that's why
it has a German name. That doesn't mean *you* need to call them Rommels,
though!

And just for the record, the Wombat is based off the Kangaroo IV APC from the
same game, Australian in origin. <shrug> The light hover jeep looks
rather like a roofed-over Bridgeport Swift Songbird, but it's generic
enough that it doesn't really matter. Many of the DS vehicle line (though not
the wheeled Phalanx, et al) have their roots in 2300AD, it's pretty
cool that way. ^_^

In any case, don't let the name of the tank prevent you from using it --
just call it something else!

Fortress Figures -- http://www.fortressfigures.com -- makes some really
nice GEVPCs, in plastic. You get 10 for $10.00, I think -- and their
light hovertank is one of my favorite microarmor figures of all time.
