Subject: $64,000 Question

<<Since some people don't seem to know: The $64K question is a reference to
some quiz show, where the final big question could earn you the afore
mentioned sum.>>

I believe the show was a 50s thing called "You Bet Your Life", and the prize
was actually $64. Rampant inflation, I guess.

I don't know if the show was actually called "The $64,000 Question" (I think
it was) but I'm certain that there was such a question and that the prize for
it was in fact $64,000. This was during the peak of the quiz show hype when
you could make pretty good money. I don't know if many people answered the
question, though.

It was indeed the $64,000 Question and Dr.Joyce Brothers was a winner.
It was the show that the movie "Quizshow" was loosely based-upon.

There was a different show called the $64,000 Question. In the late 70s they
redid the show as the $128,000 Question. I remember only seeing the latter
show. I remember two or three people who's area of expertise was Star Trek (he
said, deftly bringing the thread back to SOME semblance of
on-topicality). Inevitably they would ask the guy some incredibly
obscure ST question (which I KNOW there are people who would know it) and the
guy would fail. Like a couple of other game shows, I thought it went under in
a hail of controversy over it being rigged.

You forgot two.

$64,000 Question: TV show, possibly sixties and early seventies (I can't
remember precisely). $128,000 Question: TV show, late seventies.

You are right, 21 is the subject of _Quiz Show_. However, I also
remember some sort of scandal surrounding either $64000 Question or $128000
Question.
