I've been playing 40k (Rogue Trader) since I got the original hardback in '87.
Throughout the years I have kept up with the various revisions of the
rules, bought minis, sold minis, etc. Point being -- don't like the
current set of rules (much less all the drama that *can* exist in the GW
world) but
I do like the minis -- having a special place in my heart for the Space
Marines.
Anyway, has anyone done, or know of, a conversion of 40k to either of the
ground-pounder rulesets (preferring Stargrunt).

Oh, they've never been the same since they lost the pointy noses...
<grin>
I really miss that plastic box set. It was lovely. Easy to customise... fast
to assemble... <sigh>
I've got an entire company of power armoured marines in boxes, and another
company of terminators half painted somewhere...

There are several on the net. Start from my link page:

I found one or two conversions on the web. Try doing a search on Google.
I did a 40K Rogue Trader Stargrunt II game at GenCon a couple of times. I've
since sold all my 40K painted figures, though. Doing a 40K translation is
really easy for SG2. I made the Marines D10 armour, and the bolt gun your
standard FP2 assault gun. I gave the Squats D4 movement (instead of D6) but
they are never encumbered. Orks were pretty much the same as normal humans but
with generally worse quality/leaders, and worse armour. Somewhere I
still have the stats for the Ork dreadnought.
Seriously, it's easy to do yourself...

I was reasonably appalled to discover that the villains of one of my urban
fantasy series, the "Borrible" books, were based on these Wombles, who never
made it over here to the US. The "Rumbles" were discribed as these horrible
rat-like humanoids, and the protagonists killed them with gleeful
abandon. I had no idea that they were slaughtering beasts who were essentially
muppets....
Hmmm...anyone for Full Metal Muppets at next years' GZGECC?
