I was looking for something to act as a heavy support platform for my
Anime-Style Hard Suit Girls squad.
I was considering the following:

GZG Gunspider 'Evil Empire' Tau Crisis Battlesuit
Or a standard-issue Big Dude in a Big Suit of Power Armor with Lots of
Highly Destructive Weaponry.

what would you recommend? It'll be a while before I can save up the money
though.

I'm not sure what the GZG gunspider is, but Ainsty also makes a
gunspider-type critter that looks pretty wifty. (Though the legs are a
little thin for anime, particularly if you know Appleseed.)

Go to http://www.ainsty.co.uk/ and look under... hmm, anyone know where
it went? They used to have two different "spiders", one with four legs (I
think), the other with six or eight (the one I have, but buried somewhere so I
can't check).

Anyone?

I believe Alister is referring to;

SF25-64 Gunspider/A (recon vehicle) six legged weapons platform
SF25-65 Gunspider/B (anti-personnel version with twin rotary cannons)
SF25-66 Gunspider/C (anti-tank variant with high-velocity mass driver
and missiles)

I saw several "Gundam" figures at the local Wal-Mart that might fit the
bill
for you. I picked up a less "anime-style" one for my space dwarves to
use as an asteroid mining suit. But, I saw quite a selection of figures that
would look good with a more "anime-style" force. I have also seen loads
of models that are about the right scale. They were selling for $4.99 U.S. here
in Texas. Catch them on sale after Christmas and you can prob. get them for
half that. But, even at five bucks each they are a LOT cheaper than GW
stuff. :-|

They were part of the old SVF range that Ainsty bought out to get their
company started; AFAIK they've pulled most if not all of the vehicle part of
the SVF range at the moment, either temporarily or for good. They were nice
models, but a nightmare to assemble (zillions of bits of metal rod for the
legs, etc.)

A couple of other options:

Any of the HO scale Heavy Gear minis would probably work, provided you can
find them.

Reaper Miniatures' CAV line looks promising. You can find a pics of some of
the
figs at http://www.cavhq.com/gallery.htm.

they look good.

I was also thinking of the 25mm resin VTOL from Eureka. Either that or an APC

The HO gears loog great next to 25mm. I have a few and hope to pick a few more
up next time I'm down in Seattle.

I have a CAV model I use in 15mm as a class 2 walker. They'll be a little thin
in the limbs and body for 25mm except for some of the chunkier ones.
