I'm gearing up for SG in 15mm. So far I've uncovered Brigade, DLD, and Stan
Johansen.

Are there any other manufacturers of merit? According to web stats the DLD are
slightly larger than the Brigade, are they compatible on the table? Stan
Johansen's site list no stats plus have fuzzy photos. Any comments on quality
and compatibility with the other two I've mentioned?

Regards, Martin

The Maitso GI Joe stuff is pretty nice.

Then again, I'm lazy. "Right size? Check. Green? Check. Ok, done."

Martin, check out Brian Burger's page, it has some 15mm sci-fi mini
reviews:
http://www.cygnusx1.info/sg2/gallery.asp

and Andy Cowell's "Smallgrunt: 15mm Modern and Sci-Fi miniature
listings"
has got to be _the_ definative resource for 15mm minis for sci fi
gaming:

Whoops! Got my URLs mixed up! Brian Burger's site is here:
http://warbard.iwarp.com/sg2fifteen.html

Brian Bell's site has pics of the GZG 15s and I've mistakenly listed the URL
as Brian Burger's.

So many Brians...

Actually, you want:
http://wind.prohosting.com/~warbard/sg2fifteen.html

Same page, new site. Also
http://wind.prohosting.com/~warbard/sg2figures.html
has my full reviews of some figures - I really, really should add to
this
set. (I'll host guest reviews, if someone else writes them! - hint, hint
-)

We're taking over; or trying, but there's too many Johns, Jons, and variations
on that theme!:>

Brian Bell's site is also very useful - I never have gotten around to
scanning many of my bare-metal figures.

Fixed - ref'd the wrong directory.

Thanks for the heads-up, Don. That's probably been broken a while, and
I've never noticed.

I don't know Stan Johansen's stuff, so can't comment. I do like both the
Brigade and DLD minis, although the DLD ones are larger than Brigades (the way
I see it is that what might be a size class 3 DLD vehicle is more like a size
class 4 vehicle when compared to
Brigades - so my Kamodo APC carries a bit more in the way of troops
than my Hanit APC :-).

For very inexpensive alternative options, there is currently a line of GIJoe
combat vehicles put out by Matchbox or Taimya (sp?) or somebody like that.
They range from $0.98 to $1.98 USD, and so far
I've only found them at Wal-Marts and a couple of KayBee Toys. For
the 15mm stuff, the smaller scale Abrams tank is quite compatible with
Brigade's Haifa II heavy tank. The smaller scale (by this I mean the $0.98
vehicles) Bradley is similar in size to DLD's Kamodo APC.

Some day, when I have more time, I'll finish painting my DLD and Brigade
minis, take photos, and post them on my website for all to see and compare.
I'll throw in the GIJoe vehicles, too, for fun.

Maitso actually. http://www.maisto.com

I've got pics of the 4.5" LAV and the 3" Bradley at:
http://www.wombatzone.com/gallery.html

I think they look just about perfect. Then again, I'm lazy. "Already
assembled? Check. Right size? Check. Already painted green? Check. Ok, done."

Maisto, that's it! Thanks (although I can't get to their page :-/ )

I remember years ago, buying some of Stan minis for a Merc game (Man that
an old wargame/RPG, it never was 100% sure which way it was going).
They were not bad. As for how they compare to either of the other 2 I can't
say as I never bought from DLD or Brigade. But Stan figures were good.

There's another company called Force XXI Miniatures. You can judge the quality
of their castings from their web pages.

I asked about these guys on the list ages ago, and judging by people's
comments & the pics on their website, quality & detail are less than
stellar. Uninspired designs & low-quality execution, both in sculpting &
casting. It's too bad, because a good line of wheeled fighting vehicles would
be a great addition to SF gaming, esp. in 15mm.

I think the Force XXI walkers should win some sort of award for 'most awkward
looking vehicles ever designed...
(http://www.midiowa.com/colsten/mracs.html) The four-legged one would be
in first place! (Could it even move as designed?)

On a slightly better note, there's also Brigade Games (NOT Tony's Brigade
Miniatures!). This Brigade is a Yank firm, and their 15mm line includes
several vehicles. The whole range has a GW-ish science-fantasy flavour -
spiked armour & stuff - but some of the vehicles are cool. I have a pair
of their Scout Cars, from the old manufacturer, and they're pretty nice
vehicles. (http://www.brigadegames.com/)

See my SG2 15mm Gallery
(http://wind.prohosting.com/~warbard/sg2gallery.html) for a pic of one
of
my Scout Cars - right down near the bottom of the page. guntruck01.jpg
is the filename.

Brian, I have a few of the Force XXI Miniatures and at least the 14 vehicles
that I received were cast cleanly and the design though not original by any
standard ( Canadian Grizzlies 6x6 APCs and a few 4x4 scouts) were fine for my
use. I think allot of the problem with Force XXI Miniatures page are the
photos the minis are ok and the prices are great. The best thing about these
are they can really be dressed up with a little work and some extra kit.

Unfortunately the one WallyWorld near me only had two Bradleys, a brown and a
green. I'll have to check the other. The price was great, at $0.88. I just
wish they had enough of them.

They did have two or three Abrams. These were $1.98 each. I will probably go
back and get these. They aren't base green but cammo-ed, and they look
like a perfect fit for 15mm SG2.
