Could anyone tell me if there are figures for SGII in 15mm. I have a large
number of old Traveller figures, Grav tank, and APC's but don't see much of
them anymore.

Thank-you Brian. Please do send me the addresses. I find 15mm a
little easier to operate with for wargaming. It is also easier to to make
terrain, scratch-built vehicles and have room for manouver.

My thanks to everyone concerning where to locate 15mm SciFi figures. I will
also see what's aveilable when I go to MIGCON. Normally, I only play
historical wargames, and therefore somewhat lost when it comes to SciFi
minatures. However, a friend bought (many years ago) a number of lead
minatures for "Traveller". Does anyone remeber the old figures that came out
for "Traveller"? I still have one of the Grav tanks, and three APC's and wish
to locate a few more, but don't know who made them,or where to find them. Any
Ideas?

I play SG2 in 15mm, and there are a number of manufacturers still out there.

GZG has NAC & ESU figs, in packs of eight for 1.75 pounds sterling.
They're very nice - email Jon about ordering some. No vehicles (although
I gather GZG used to manufacture some 15mm vehicles) The NAC figs make up the
bulk of my force, and I'll be getting more sometime.

FreiKorps15 has "Aliens" style figs - I don't know what they're like,
but I've heard good things about the quality of FreiKorp's other stuff. Anyone
own any?

Irregular Miniatures has a small 15mm sf line - they look a bit Sp*ce
M*r*ne-ish, and Irreg's quality varies, but they're cheap. I've got some
on order, and I'll post a review to the list when they arrive. They have a few
vehicles, as well.

TableTop Miniatures has a fairly large 15mm sf line - including the only
sf 15mm civilians, cops and starship crewpersons I know of. I just got
their catalog yesterday, so I don't know what they're like - the line
drawings in the catalog look a bit GW-ish, but not much. Also a few
vehicles.

I have addresses for Irreg and TT, and a US email address for a FreiKorps
distributor. Let me know if you want these.

Anyone else? Have I left any companies out?

BTW - one of the recent issues of Wargames Illustrated had a color photo
of a large 15mm SF battle, from one of the UK cons. Some cool buildings; the
article had a interesting scenario, and it was nice to know that 15mm SF
gamers do get some attention every now and then...

GZG do have a range of 15mm NAC and ESU. The range apparently isn't advertised
in teh catalogues anymore. But you can get them from GZG in UK or Eureka Mins
in Oz. Nice figures, come in standard packs of 8; 6 AR, 1 SAW and 1 GMS. I
don't think Jon T continued with the line as there are apparently no vehicles
available.

Glad to hear of another 15mm SF scratchbuilder - my last project was a
_very_ large interface shuttle - designed to land an entire MechInf or
light armour platoon (up to 4 Size 4 vehicles) at once...the beast is made of
styrene, roughly 13" long, 11" wingtip to wingtip, and about 7" from landing
gear to the tops of the vertical stabilizers. I haven't used it in a game yet,
and it's a beast to carry around, but it was a good project, and it sure is
distinctive...I'll write it into some scenarios soon.

The adresses: I'm housesitting for a bit, so my catalogs are at home, but
here's TableTop Minitaure's address:

TT Miniatures 40 Queens Rd North Eastwood Notts NG16 3LA United Kingdom

Getting in touch with GZG's Jon Tuffley is easy: he's reading this as
well. His email adress is: jon@gzero.dungeon.com and the GZG catalog
is online, although the exact URL has gone missing on my computer...

I'll get Irregular's address out soon, in the next couple of days.

The FreiKorp15 North American outlet is Outland Games, at outland@erinet.com

Going back to scratchbuilding: In early May, I posted a longish article to
the list on modifying GZG 15mm figs - specifically, I made snipers (in
ghillie suits), EW troopers, medics, and groundmount Heavy Weapons
troopers. The article sort of fell into a black hole - I can't recall it
generating a single response. Anyway, if anyone wants a copy, I'll forward it
via private email.

Must go, (there's a very fine microbrewed dark ale wanting my attention...)

Are these the old Laserburn figs? I've got some around: marines, mercs and red
redemption troops. Good combat rules too. Then of course Laserburn evolved to
the GW and WH40K

Outland Games (Chris Von Fahenstock) carries the figures in the US --
they'll be at GenCon this year.

WARNING - as most Traveller minis were made when I was too young
to be playing such things, the rest of this post should be considered in the
AFAIK category

The 15mm Traveller stuff was made primarily by Martian Metals, now defunct.
They were good to excellent quality. 25mm Traveller stuff has

been produced off and on over the years (RAFM, Grenadier, others I Don't

Know About). Quality on those has been spotty. The only Traveller spacecraft
that I know of were the RAFM ones produced for TNE. Some were good, some
terrible (Darrian Patrol Cruiser). It would be nice to see some Traveller
stuff come out again, in 25mm or 15mm. 6mm would be even better. GZGs UNSC
Marines bear a pleasantly strong resemblance to Imperial Marines in
Battledress (PA). The Imperial Grav Tanks & APCs would be nice to see in 25mm
& 6mm again, too, hint, hint:)

If you have metal vehicles with them, then I think these would be the
Martian Metals line - AFAIK long gone now, you best chance will be the
second-hand market. Citadel in the UK (and licensed to RAFM for
US/Canadian
sale) had some boxed sets of their own official Traveller 15mms in the early
Eighties, very nice figures but again now only occasionally available
secondhand.

You noticed the resemblance? That's what I bought em for! (grin)

Yeah, I'd like to see some 'almost Traveller' stuff made (just like the GZG
guys make some 'Almost B5' stuff....

And I'd love to get a hold of a Type A Free Trader Mini.:)

I believe there was a mention of some Traveller minis for sale at a pretty
good discount from the Travelling Mage on the rec.games.miniatures.misc board
tonight.

Citadel made some 25mm Traveller figs in the 80's. And that's the origin
of the "pointy-nose" Space Marines popularized by WH40K.

Actually, no. The Citadel SF stuff made in the early 80s was their Spacefarers

was a set of Spacefarers miniatures rules, which
I've got around somewhere. The first pointy-helmet Space Wombles were a
set of figures sculpted by Bob Naismith in the mid to late 80s, which went on
to become the Space Marines we all know. They didn't have the flares at
that stage though. None of these were anything to do with Traveller -
the only Traveller related stuff that Citadel ever did were the15mm boxed sets
from the early 80s.

I could swear these were sold under Traveller banner at some point, but it's
not really worth digging up my old WDs and Citadel Journals for.

Well, somebody (Grenadier?) made some decent 25mm Traveller figs (I've got the
Adventurers set) in the past.

The first pointy-helmet Space Wombles were a set

Who coined the phrase Womble (and the very Wombling?). I've never heard anyone
except was it Douglas Adams? say something about
Wombling....?
