That could work. In my Civil War rules I invented a Reload action for really
slow weapons. I can see fast acting weapons making use of two fire actions in
an FMA style game. In SG2 it's already factored in.

These details look more like a variation on the IAVR. APFC & reactive armour
already cover these sort of defences, so would be easier to subsume the LVC
into those areas. I think part of the rationale behind IAVR not being defended
by PDS is the reaction time between launch and impact. When the launch is in
metres and
takes 1-2 seconds to impact, the PDS just won't be able to slew the
barrels around in time. (Hammer's Slammers covers this pretty well).

Skolnick's Radar Handbook will have everything you never wanted to know about
radar. But because there are major propogation delays in space (even at light
speed), you should probably read about anti-submarine warfare sensors
and repla ce sound propogation with light propogation, to get the feel of
operating sensors in
ship-to-ship combat.

The Radar Handbook should give you enough jargon to baffle your friends.

Another good source of material is the Traveller technical manual A.K.A "Fire,
Fusion, and Steel". It is more readable, and richly written. It is meant for a
gamemaster to invent new devices for their campaigns, but has enough science
to provide a great deal of flavour text.

Uh, just to be pedantic, Winnipeg is pretty darn close to the geographical
centre of the continent. Winnipeg isn't much different from Hudson's Bay.
*G*
***

Understood, but, if I'm reading the map correctly, Winnepeg is as close, or
closer, to the Sioux City I suggested earlier, as it is to Hudson Bay. And,
Nebraska winters scare plenty of folks, though I've had plenty of discussions
with friends in Regina, and have no desire to experience a
central Canadian winter, either. ;->=

ANYWAY, I was thinking of the northern side of the bay for the 'north shore'.
*brrrr*

***
Cool. I think it should be called "Bob".
***

As I break into a Paul Simon song: I will call you Betty, and Betty, you can
call me Al...

Anyway, would you make to a con in Winnepeg? ;->=

Yuck, anything north of Fargo gives me the willies. They like use some wierd
measurement system based on, get this, 10's instead of the perfectly logical
random assortment of 4's, 3's and 12's etc, we enjoy here in the US. Plus,
they say "aboot" instead of "about." Wierd.

Yeah, but things actually happen in Illinois. Last I heard anything out of

What that's abowt is a prime example of the rich panoply that is the system of
modern American dialects. I think you hang out with too many Yoopers (people
from Upper Peninsula Michigan). The same folks say things like "root" instead
of "route" and "comfy" instead of "f*ckin' cold."

Well...small nations (e.g. Ghurka World) ought to have a few frigates
and a destroyer--which are unusable for lack of maintenance.

According to Indy's Fleet lists, the NSL has a 128,526 navy (plus fighters).
Brian Bell has a fleet list for PAU, at 82,679NPV, plus
fighters. One of the other of those should probably be adjusted--I'd
expect the NSL to be able to afford 4-5 times what the PAU can.

In round numbers, using the OU as "1 fleet", the powers should have roughly:
OU, FCT, IC: 1 PAU: 1.1 IF: 2 NSL: 5 FSE: 6 ESU: 8.5 NAC: lots...around 25.
Adjustments: the NAC figure should be reduced to account for economic damage
during the US economic collapse and the various wars of the Americas. These
figures assume that all economies will grow at the same rate and all
governments will put the same proportion of their GDP into naval construction.
