1/300 Starport Terrain

Subject: 1/300 Starport Terrain

I just joined the list and have a question I hope someone from the UK can
answer for me.

When I was in the UK last year, I attended the w.M.M.S show in
Birmingham. There was a vendor there selling 1/300 science fiction
terrain. Of particular interest was a starport complex, which I'm still
kicking myself for not buying. I'd love to identify this vendor and see if I
can buy this terrain still.

The starport consisted of low buildings with very sloped walls, 45 degrees or
so. Kind of a cross between bunkers and civilian structures, I guess. The demo
model was painted gray with yellow and black stripes in the landing areas. The
tops of the buildings were pretty flat, and all the buildings seemed pretty
rectilinear IIRC.

Pretty vague description, I realize, but if it sounds familiar, I appreciate
any information I can get.

Thanks,

Ainsty's terrain is predominantly 25mm scale. The terrain I used for Hot Spot
was from GZG and Armorcast. The Armorcast terrain is actually 25mm terrain
also, but it looks like an industrial complex when you use
them with 1/300 figures.

On the other hand, the description could be the DCP resin cast command posts
for Ogre Miniatures, though I think Steve Jackson Games in now producing them.
If you see a Deluxe GEV miniatures box, there's a rather poor picture on the
back, in the center. Also:

http://www.sjgames.com/miniatures/ogre/deluxegev/

However, I don't think the CP's are available separately, came in just two
varieties, and now seem to be down to one.

Have you seen GZG's own Microtac? (OHMYGOSH, I brought it back on
topic...
*heh heh*) Some sloped walls, though none I can recall at 45 degrees.

http://www.gtns.net/gzg/gzg-micro.html
http://www.geohex.com/micro01.htm

The latter having a few piccies; I've no doubt that Eureka has more, but I'll
leave finding them to someone else.

Maybe GeoHex's Star-Fortress? The walls are sloped,
but not at 45 degrees.

Mayhem Miniatures did a range of 1/300 SF buildings including some 3-4
story ones with inclined walls.

Mayhem has sold out to Kennington Miniatures: 4 Church Vale, Forest Hill,

The command post terrain piece (MT-08) has highly sloped sides. GEO-Hex
doesn't have a photo of it on their website.

Unfortunately, there are not a lot of vendors out there for 6mm science
fiction terrain.

I'll be interested to hear if they're the ones Cary's seeking, but I've two
other questions, if you've had experience with these:
How do they mix with/compared to Microtac?
What's the quality on the vehicles?

I was amused to notice the STARTRAN TRANSPORTER. In CB lingo, Lincoln, NE, USA
is known as 'Star City'(or is it any capital?). Anyway, our city bus
system is known as 'StarTran'. ;->=

saw. But I do like this one too, and intend to get it as well.

I don't know if Ainsty is still producing 1/300 stuff, at least I
couldn't find it on their website. I remember that they dropped some stuff
from their
line, maybe the 1/300 stuff was it.

In any case, I don't think the vendor I saw at WMMS wsa Ainsty, but a smaller
company.

Anyway, thanks.

If the tradestand display was a diorama style set-up in a perspex case,
then you're probably thinking of the stuff by Mainly Military/MBG - a
range that's recently changed hands, having been in production for a LONG time
(since the late 70s, IIRC) - but they are still very nice pieces and
very usable.

Yes, this is the stuff. I looked at the drawings at
www.wargames-figures.com
and verified it. But they must have scratch built some of the models, I didn't
see everything I remembered seeing in person. Very impressive diorama they had
too.

I've sent off a email to mainly military/MBG asking for ordering
details. Hopefully redirect my inquiry if they've sold the line.

Thanks for all the responses.

Cary, if you do, and you have some MicroTac, please consider putting some
piccies up on a website for comparison. It's really difficult to tell from the
drawings, but it appears as if the relatively 'open' Star Colony line would be
a good compliment to the massive pieces of the GZG items.

Thanks!

Heh!! Mike at Ainsty will be amused to hear that there are companies
"smaller" than his, because he's a one-man business (with a bit of help
from his wife).... ;-)

Jon (GZG) - a TWO-man business.... ;-)

Do you recall the rough dimensions of square modular pieces? Are they as large
as 4" x 4" or closer to 3" x 3" or 2" x 2"?

Unfortunately, I don't really recall. My best guess is no bigger than 3" x 3".
I'll post an answer when I get some though.
